A dentistry student, aged 24, residing in Adibatla, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, was abducted from her residence on Friday, just hours before her engagement, by a group comprising 50 to 80 individuals. The assailants, arriving in four cars and a truck, not only kidnapped M Vaishali Reddy but also subjected her family to violence and vandalized their home in Turkayamjal.
The Rachakonda police successfully rescued Vaishali by Friday night. Subsequently, her family filed a complaint against K Naveen Reddy, accusing him of stalking and harassing her. The police have taken legal action, charging the accused with kidnapping, attempted murder, trespassing, among other offenses. As of now, 31 individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Naveen, who manages a beverage franchise, was in the process of constructing a new branch opposite Vaishali’s residence. In response to the incident, her family and relatives utilized earth movers to dismantle the under-construction branch. The disturbing incident, which took place around 11:30 am while the family was preparing for Vaishali’s engagement at a nearby function hall, was widely circulated on social media.
According to the police, Vaishali and Naveen had encountered each other a few months prior, and he had proposed marriage to her. However, her parents were reportedly opposed to the match. Further investigation by the Rachakonda police revealed that Vaishali was rescued within six hours of the incident. Authorities are exploring various angles, including unverified claims by Naveen that he had married Vaishali and that she desired to live with him against her parents’ objections.
